Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is the favourite to win a third Olympic 100 metres title and Caeleb Dressel goes for gold yet again on a mouthwatering Saturday in Tokyo.

Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah could make it a memorable day for Jamaica on the track at the Olympic Stadium.

Dressel has taken his tally of Olympic titles to four with two golds in the Japanese capital and the American is primed to add another in the 100m butterfly on the penultimate day of swimming competition.

Stats Perform picks out some of the standout events to look forward to, including the women's singles tennis final between Belinda Bencic and Marketa Vondrousova along with the triathlon mixed relay.

FRASER-PRYCE EYES HAT-TRICK

Fraser-Pryce won the Olympic 100m titles in Beijing and London before she had to settle for silver at the Rio Games five years ago.

The 24-year-old and team-mate Thompson-Herah eased through their heats on Friday, while Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast equalled the African record and clocked the fastest ever time in Olympics heats with a rapid 10.78.

Saturday sees the start of the men's 100m, with Americans Trayvon Bromell and Ronnie Baker coming in with high hopes of winning the blue riband event.

The men's discus final will also take place, while there will be men's long jump, women's 400m hurdles and men's 800m action to look forward to.

DRESSEL AND LEDECKY POISED TO INCREASE USA HAUL

It would be a surprise if American sensations Dressel and Katie Ledecky are not back on top of the podium after the 100m butterfly and 800m freestyle finals respectively.

World record holder Dressel set a new Olympic record of 49.71 on Friday and can produce another masterclass when it matters most.

Ledecky took the 1500m freestyle title and is the one to beat in the 800m final at the Aquatics Centre.

Emily Seebohm and Kaylee McKeown could secure two of the three medals for Australia in the 100m backstroke final, while Adam Peaty can add to his list of honours in the 4x100 medley.

BENCIC AND VONDROUSOVA ON BRINK OF FINEST HOUR

A new tennis champion will be crowned when Vondrousova and Bencic do battle in the women's singles final.

The unseeded Vondrousova of the Czech Republic beat Elina Svitolina in the semi-finals, while Swiss ninth seed Bencic got the better of Elena Rybakina at Ariake Tennis Park.

Vondrousova won her solitary WTA singles event in 2017, while world number 12 Bencic has four titles to her name.

Novak Dkojovic will go for a bronze medal against Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta after Alexander Zverev ended his bid to win a Golden Slam, while Svitolina and Rybakina also contest a third-place match.
