Malaysian female archer Syaqiera Mashayikh's 2020 Olympic Games journey was over on Tuesday after she was defeated 4-6 by ROC's Elena Osipova in the women's individual event.

The 21-year-old started the first elimination match well to take the first set 26-25 before the Russian, who won a silver medal in the women's team event, pegged back 28-26 in the second set.

She had an opportunity to retake the lead in the next two sets after poor shooting by Osipova, but she was unable to capitalise on it and had to settle with 26-26 and 25-25 draws.

In the fifth and decisive set, Osipova shot two 10-pointers in a row to knock Syaqiera out of the competition.

Despite the early exit, Syaqiera still had an outing to remember after she renewed her personal and national Olympic records during the qualifying round last Saturday.

Khairul Anuar Mohamad is now the only Malaysian archer remaining at Tokyo 2020 as he faces Finland's Antti Vikstrom on Wednesday (8:43am Malaysia time).
