Irfan Shamshuddin continued his regional dominance in the men's discus throw event as he clinched a gold medal at the 2021 SEA Games on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old, who had emerged victorious in the last four SEA Games editions, threw a distance of 58.26m at the My Dinh National Stadium, leaving Thailand's Kiadpradid Srisai (51.18m) and the Philippines' William Edward Morrison (50.44m) in the dust.

It was Malaysia's first gold of the day from an athletic event as Andre Anura Anuar won the men's triple jump final.

He outjumped Mark Harry Diones Aloto (15.87m) and Tran Van Dien (15.84m) with a successful attempt of 16.21m.

His victory also meant Malaysia retain the men's triple jump gold, which was won by Hakimi Ismail in the last three editions.

Coupled with three gold medals won on Monday and last Saturday, the national athletic contingent met the Malaysia Athletics Federation's target of five gold medals in Vietnam.
