Almost three years since he left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Chan Peng Soon has decided to rejoin the national stable again, this time as a mentor with a goal of making the 2024 Olympics cut.

Chan on Monday had announced his split from Goh Liu Ying after 13 title-laden years together battling in the mixed doubles.

“After thorough deliberation, the association has decided to absorb the accomplished 33-year-old with the objective of strengthening the mixed doubles department and implementing a mentoring role for the youthful squad.

“Chan has also stated his intentions to fight for Paris 2024 and to serve as mentor to our young team,” said BAM president Norza Zakaria in a statement.

The national team's mixed doubles contingent comprises of several young pairs including Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See, Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei and Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien.

The immediate aim for Chan would be to secure a new partner at the soonest to prepare for the 2022 season and start from scratch to qualify for Paris 2024.

At the Rio 2016 Olympics, Chan-Goh made the final and took home a silver medal.
