Skuad bimbingan Marcelo Serpa Coelho tewas 2-6 menentang Australia dalam aksi separuh akhir pada Rabu sekaligus gagal mengulangi pencapaian 2010 ketika itu kejohanan tidak disertai Thailand.
Bukan tiada peningkatan tetapi pasukan lain seperti Thailand, Australia dan Vietnam terus meningkat meninggalkan Malaysia dalam arena futsal di rantau ini.
Meskipun belum berdepan Vietnam dalam kejohanan kali ini namun corak permainan yang ditampilkan pasukan itu tampak ada perbezaan dengan skuad negara.
Ini terbukti apabila Vietnam mampu memberi cabaran hebat kepada Australia sebelum kalah tipis 5-6 dalam aksi peringkat kumpulan berbanding Malaysia yang tampak gagal menyaingi naib juara tiga kali itu.
Bagaimanapun, anak buah Marcelo mampu mengubah persepsi ini jika menewaskan Vietnam dalam perlawanan penentuan tempat ketiga/keempat pada Jumaat.
Itu juga menjadi harapan saya yang mengikuti rapat perkembangan skuad futsal kebangsaan sejak beberapa tahun kebelakangan ini agar kita pulang ke tanahair sebagai tiga pasukan terbaik.
Anda masih berpeluang melakar sejarah kerana kita juga sudah lama tidak merasai tempat ketiga yang kali terakhir dilakukan pada 2008 di bumi Bangkok dan saya pasti ia akan memartabatkan sukan futsal tanahair.
