Ernesto Valverde, dijangka akan kembali menjadi ketua jurulatih Athletic Bilbao selepas Jon Uriarte memenangi pemilihan presiden kelab itu awal pagi tadi.
Valverde pernah mengemudi Athletic untuk dua tempoh berbeza, iaitu dari 2003 hingga 2005 dan 2013 hingga 2017. Tiada jurulatih lain pernah mengendalikan perlawanan pasukan itu lebih banyak berbandingnya dengan rekod 306 perlawanan.
Dia menikmati kejayaan bersama Athletic dalam tempoh keduanya dengan membawa pasukan itu ke peringkat Eropah dalam setiap kempen dan memenangi Supercopa de Espana 2015-16 dengan menewaskanm Barcelona 5-1.
Pada 2017, Valverde dilantik sebagai jurulatih Barcelona dan dalam dua musim penuh pertamanya, dia membawa Barca memenangi gelaran Serie A dan kejuaraan Copa del Rey pada 2018 tetapi kegagalan dalam Liga Juara-Juara Eropah (UCL) menyaksikan dia kemudian dipecat pada penghujung 2019.
Selepas itu, pengendali berusia 58 tahun berkenaan tidak pernah menyertai mana-mana pasukan sebelum calon presiden Athletic, Uriarte, mendedahkan bahawa Valverde berkemungkinan besar akan menjadi jurulatih baru kelab itu seandainya dia memenangi jawatan berkenaan.
Uriarte, yang merupakan calon presiden termuda pada usia 43 tahun, merupakan bekas pegawai bank dan pengasas bersama portal tiket, Ticketbis, yang dijual kepada eBay pada 2016.
Dia memenangi pemilihan itu dengan 46.71 peratus undian.
