Pandelela Rinong shook off a potential foot injury to complete her women's 10-metre platform final outing at the 2020 Olympic Games.

The 28-year-old finished last in the final, scoring only 245.85 points from five dive, as China's Quan Hongchan (466.20 points), Chinese diver Chen Yuxi (425.40 points) and Australian Melissa Wu (371.40 points) took home the medals.

The score total, which was lower than she managed to collect during the preliminary round (284.90 points) and the semi-final (315.75 points), was partially caused by her first dive that gave her only 18.00 points.

On a closer inspection, the 2021 FINA Diving World Cup gold medalist's feet seemingly hit the platform on her way down.

"[She did not jump far when she was taking off] so when she was doing her second spin, her feet hit the platform and she lost momentum in her forward three-and-half somersaults.

"It was too difficult for her to regain control afterward," commented former national diver Bryan Nickson Lomas during his appearance on Astro Arena.

Despite the potential injury, Pandelela went on to score 71.05, 60.80, 52.80 and 43.20 in her remaining four dives.

With her 12th-placed finish, it means the Malaysian diving contingent ended its Olympic campaign without any medal for the first time since 2008.

Pandelela won bronze in 2012 before bagging a silver medal with Cheong Jun Hoong in 2016.

Nur Dhabitah Sabri came the closest to a podium finish in Tokyo as she finished fourth in the women's three-metre springboard event.
