Dua daripada tiga pemenang terakhir Piala Dunia, Sepanyol dan Jerman, bakal berentap di peringkat Kumpulan E sementara tuan rumah, Qatar, pula bakal membuka tirai temasya itu dengan menentang Ecuador pada 21 November depan.
Beberapa perlawanan menarik turut dinantikan sebelum pusingan kalah mati tatkala tiga slot lagi masih perlu ditentukan dengan dua perlawanan play-off di antara benua dan play-off membabitkan wakil Eropah akan diadakan pada Jun depan -- berpotensi menjadi pertemuan sesama Great Britain melibatkan Wales, Scotland yang masih merebut tempat di samping Ukraine selain England, Iran dan Amerika Syarikat.
Dalam undian di Qatar sebentar tadi itu, penyandang juara, Perancis, perlu melepasi ranjau Denmark, Tunisia, Peru selain Emiriah Arab Bersatu (UAE) atau Australia yang masih mengintai kemaraan.
Brazil yang mengharungi kelayakan dengan cemerlang ditempatkan dalam Kumpulan G, manakala Belgium, Portugal dan Argentina, begitu juga antara pasukan pilihan yang diramalkan lolos ke pusingan seterusnya.
Bagaimanapun, jadual sepak mula dan gelanggang bagi setiap perlawanan masih belum dimuktamadkan.
