River Plate mengesahkan Julian Alvarez bersetuju untuk menyertai Manchester City tetapi penyerang itu akan kembali ke Argentina dengan status pinjaman yang masih boleh dilanjutkan ke musim depan.
Penyerang itu menikmati 2021 yang cemerlang dengan meledak menjaringkan 24 gol dalam 46 perlawanan.
Prestasi itu menyaksikan pemain berusia 21 tahun tersebut tersenarai dalam skuad senior Argentina sebelum membawanya ke juara Liga Perdana Inggeris (EPL) berkenaan.
Perjanjian yang dilaporkan bernilai £15.4 juta (RM86.4j) itu akan diselesaikan sebelum tarikh akhir perpindahan di England hari ini, tetapi Alvarez akan kembali ke River sekurang-kurangnya hingga Julai depan.
Presiden River, Jorge Brito, berkata kancah Copa Libertadores telah melembutkan hati City untuk meminjamkan pemain itu sepanjang baki separuh kempen 2022.
"Julian hampir menjadi nilai tambah buat kami," kata Brito kepada ESPN.
“Dia bagaikan tidak boleh digantikan seperti mana (jurulatih, Marcelo) Gallardo.
"Tempoh pinjamannya akan berlangsung hingga 7 Julai depan -- tiga pihak telah mencapai klausa terbaik: kami yang merupakan penjual, Manchester City yang merupakan kelab pembeli dan juga pemain itu sendiri.
"Ada kemungkinan dia akan terus bersama kami jika River meneruskan saingan dalam Copa musim depan."
