Pandelela Rinong and Leong Mun Yee came up short in the women's synchronised 10m platform final at the 2020 Olympic Games as they finished eighth on Tuesday.

The pair, who finished seventh together in the 2012 edition in London, had a good start, scoring 50.40 points with a reverse dive in their first attempt to sit second, trailing behind China's Chen Yuxi and Zhang Jiaqi by only three points.

However, they had subpar subsequent dives to finish last among all eight diving pairs.

They scored 277.98 points in total, while the Chinese pair took home the gold with 363.78 points, followed by Team USA's Jessica Parratto and Delaney Schnell (310.80 points) and Mexico's Gabriela Agundez Garcia and Alejandra Orozco Loza.

The result also meant Pandelela was unable to defend her silver medal won with Cheong Jun Hoong at the Rio Olympics five years ago.
