Malaysian swimmer Phee Jinq En set a new national mark as she finished second in her women's 100m breaststroke preliminary heat at the 2020 Olympic Games on Sunday.

The 23-year-old clocked 1:08.40s, renewing her previous national record set at the 2019 SEA Games, as she was narrowly beaten by Slovakia's Andrea Podmanikova, who was only 0.04s faster.

However, she was unable to qualify for the women's 100m breaststroke semi-finals as she finished 29th overall — only the best 16 progress to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Welson Sim also failed to reach the men's 200m freestyle semi-finals, finishing seventh in his preliminary heat with a time of 1:49.24s.
