Pemain nombor dua dunia, Iga Swiatek membuktikan betapa dia layak untuk berada di ranking pertama dunia dalam kemas kini yang akan datang apabila mudah menghantar pulang pemain pilihan ke-14, Corry Gauff, dengan kemenangan 6-3, 6-1, sekali gus mara ke suku akhir Kejohanan Tenis Terbuka Miami hari ini.
Swiatek, 20, akan menjadi pemain perseorangan Poland pertama menduduki ranking nombor satu dunia apabila WTA mengemaskini kedudukan terbaru pada 4 April ini.
Ia berikutan persaraan Ash Barty daripada sukan tenis dan Swiatek kini bersedia mengisi kedudukan teratas itu dengan menjadikan Gauff sebagai mangsa terbarunya.
Dia memenangi lapan game sewaktu servis di tangannya dan mematahkan empat servis Gauff daripada lapan peluang dan memenangi lima game berturut-turut untuk menamatkan saingan itu.
Dalam pada itu, selepas mendapat laluan percuma dalam pusingan terdahulu, Naomi Osaka mempamerkan aksi terbaiknya untuk menewaskan Alison Riske 6-3, 6-4.
Kedua-dua pemain menghasilkan mata break sepanjang perlawanan tu tetapi pada ketika Osaka menyelamatkan tujuh daripada lapan mata break dalam set kedua, Riske pula hanya mampu menyelamatkan sembilan daripada 12, sekali gus menbenarkan Osaka untuk ke suku akhir.
