Daniil Medvedev terlepas peluang untuk kembali ke puncak ranking apabila dia ditewaskan oleh Hubert Hurkacz di pusingan suku akhir Terbuka Miami semalam.
Medvedev akan menjadi pemain nombor satu dunia sekali lagi jika dia mengalahkan Hurkacz, tetapi juara bertahan itu menang 7-6 (9-7) 6-3 di Stadium Hard Rock.
Novak Djokovic akan kekal sebagai pemain lelaki teratas di planet ini berkat Pole Hurkacz, yang menyamakan rekod pertemuandengan pemain Russia itu pada 2-2.
Carlos Alcaraz atau Miomir Kecmanovic akan bertarung dengan pilihan kelapan Hurkacz, yang memenangi 74 peratus mata pada servis pertamanya dan mematahkan servis Medvedev sebanyak tiga kali, untuk tempat ke final.
Kemenangan Hurkacz ke atas pilihan utama adalah yang kedua menentang pemain dua teratas, dengan yang pertama turut menentang Medvedev di Wimbledon tahun lepas.
"Saya fikir pulangan adalah penting. Saya dapat membuat banyak pulangan dan mendapat beberapa mata percuma pada servis saya, kerana mengadakan rali dengan Daniil adalah menyeronokkan, tetapi ia berlarutan," kata Hurkacz.
"Memang bagus saya meraih beberapa mata percuma. Saya telah menghabiskan banyak masa di Florida, jadi saya sudah biasa dengan cuaca di sini. Saya rasa keadaan memihak kepada saya hari ini, jadi saya cuba menggunakannya."
