Skuad kanu dan kayak negara yang diwakili enam atlet menyasar satu pingat perak menerusi atlet muda, Khairul Naim Zainal, bagi acara K1 1000 meter lelaki dalam Sukan SEA Hanoi dari 12 hingga 23 Mei depan.
Menurut pengurus pasukan, Adam Arif, persiapan barisan atlet kini di landasan tepat meskipun tidak mempunyai sebarang kejohanan kompetitif.
Kem negara buat pertama kalinya juga akan membawa peralatan kayak dari Malaysia.
"Persiapan peralatan kami semua alhamdulillah, buat pertama kalinya kami akan bawa kayak sendiri.
"Dua kayak sudah dihantar ke sana untuk acara K1 dan K2 1000 lelaki serta wanita. Seminggu sebelum kejohanan, kami boleh menggunakannya di sana.
"Sasaran kami tetap dengan satu pingat perak menerusi K1 1000m lelaki menerusi Khairul Naim Zainal," katanya.
Sasaran itu dianggap berliku memandangkan persediaan mereka tanpa sebarang perlumbaan kompetitif.
"Dari awal tahun ini hingga kini tiada sebarang kejohanan dapat kami sertai, kami hanya berlatih di samping atlet Sukma (Sukan Malaysia).
"Hajat kami untuk menguji Singapura pula tidak kesampaian kerana mereka sudah menjalani latihan di tempat lain," katanya.
