Bekas penerjun kebangsaan, Bryan Nickson Lomas, meminta pegawai utama sukan negara sepakat untuk mengutamakan atlet pelapis atau juara Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) dalam misi ke Vietnam tahun depan.
Ia susulan pemilihan 40 jenis sukan dalam Sukan SEA Hanoi yang dilihat tidak berpihak kepada Malaysia.
"Tahap boling tenpin dalam Sukan SEA agak tinggi jadi tiada masalah untuk mereka ketengahkan atlet muda.
"Badminton, memanah, berbasikal dan hoki pun rasanya tiada masalah kerana ramai atlet pelapis yang bagus," katanya dalam Nadi Weekend sebentar tadi.
Kehilangan lubuk emas seperti skuasy, boling padang, pelayaran dan bola jaring bakal menjejaskan kekuatan Malaysia selain meletakkan tekanan kepada atlet senior untuk mencapai sasaran pingat.
Begitupun, pemenang enam pingat emas Sukan SEA itu juga tidak menolak bahawa potensi atlet muda boleh digilap dalam temasya dwi-tahunan berkenaan.
"Penyertaan atlet pelapis juga boleh dianggap sebagai kejayaan.
"Kita mahu lihat mereka dinaikkan (pangkat) dan peningkatan tahap mereka.
"Kita tidak boleh mengharapkan atlet senior selama-lamanya atas faktor utama, jadi atlet muda inilah yang akan ambil alih.
"Kedua-duanya boleh digabungkan tetapi perhatian lebih perlu diberikan terhadap atlet pelapis."
