Malaysian archers had to settle for a silver medal in the men's compound team event at the 2021 SEA Games after being defeated by Indonesia on Thursday.

The trio of Juwaidi Mazuki, Wong Co Wan and Alang Ariff Aqil Ghazalli shot a total of 229 point, just one fewer than Indonesiat to concede the gold medal.

It ended Malaysia's seven-year dominance in the event, after winning gold in the last three SEA Games editions.

Meanwhile, in the women's compound team event on the same day, Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh, Iman Aisyah Norazam and P. Kayalvhily teamed up to beat Thailand for bronze.

It summed up the Malaysian archery squad's struggle in Vietnam so far, with only one silver (mixed recurve team) and three bronze (men's individual recurve, women's individual recurve and men's recurve team) in other events to show.

Only men's individual, women's individual and mixed teams events in the compound category remain for Malaysia to avoid failing to win a SEA Games gold medal for the first time since 2001.
