Pengarah Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN), Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, melahirkan keterujaan untuk melihat lebih banyak atlet daripada program Kita Juara diserapkan ke Program Podium pada masa akan datang.
Katanya, penambahan 20 atlet Kita Juara ke Program Podium adalah satu jumlah yang besar dan dianggap sebagai pencapaian yang sangat positif.
Shapawi, bagaimanapun, menyangkal dakwaan yang mengatakan perubahan kedua-dua program itu bakal mengganggu persediaan atlet negara untuk menghadapi Sukan SEA, 19-31 Ogos depan.
"Ada beberapa atlet daripada Program Podium bertanding untuk Sukan SEA. Ia adalah persefahaman, bukannya atlet Program Podium tidak boleh bertanding di temasya itu," katanya.
Seramai 33 atlet daripada 14 jenis sukan berada dalam Program Podium.
Program elit itu diwujudkan dalam usaha Malaysia untuk memburu pingat emas pertama negara dalam Sukan Olimpik 2020 di Tokyo.
