Pelumba trek negara, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, tidak berpuas hati dengan pencapaian tangga kelapannya dalam acara keirin Piala Dunia pertama di Glasgow walaupun beraksi sebagai wakil tunggal Malaysia tanpa Azizulhasni Awang.
Kejayaan mara ke separuh akhir sebelum meraih tangga kelapan sepatutnya dianggap satu kejayaan untuk Firdaus.
Bagaimanapun, ia tidak cukup untuk menggembirakan pelumba kelahiran Johor itu kerana kemarau penampilan sulung dalam final masih berpanjangan.
Firdaus melakukan sedikit kesilapan pada hujung perlumbaan separuh akhir acara itu di Velodrom Sir Chris Hoy sebelum gagal ke final.
“Ini merupakan salah satu pencapaian terbaik kerana mara ke separuh akhir, namun kesilapan saya kerana lambat melakukan pecutan di pusingan terakhir telah menggagalkan saya ke final,” kata Firdaus.
Sementara itu, dalam acara pecut, Firdaus melepasi peringkat kelayakan, bagaimanapun, terkandas pada pusingan pertama.
Dia akan meneruskan cabaran sebagai wakil tunggal negara dalam Piala Dunia kedua di Apeldoorn, Belanda, bermula Jumaat ini.
