Malaysia doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky said Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik should target nothing less than clinching the World Tour Finals title in Bangkok, Thailand this December.
“They should be motivated and have the self-belief to win it, especially carrying the reputation of world champions. Everyone who goes there will believe they can win it too.
“Their mental strength will be key to achieving this. In terms of skill, technique and overall preparations, they are ready. But they need to believe they have it in them to go all the way too.
“They could possibly be in the same group as Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto and Takuro Hoki Yugo Kobayashi. Which is why they need to be strong, physically and mentally to overcome these top guns,” Rexy told Stadium Astro.
Chia-Soh are also nominated for the Badminton World Federation Pair Of The Year, along with Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan, Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai and Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong.
Chia-Soh had the world title to their name, while Chen-Jia also won the world meet along with the Asian Championships, German, Malaysia and Denmark Open and Indonesia Masters.
Dechapol- Sapsiree had three titles to their names, while Zheng-Huang won the world and Asian crowns along with seven World Tour titles this year.
The winners will be announced on December 5, just a day after the Malaysian contingent departs for Bangkok.
Besides Chia-Soh, women's doubles pairs Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah and Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien, men's doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, and mixed doubles shuttlers Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai are in action in Bangkok.
