Cronulla Sharks chief executive Barry Russell says Shane Flanagan will stay on as head coach despite further allegations made against the NRL club.

Flanagan is reported to have been questioned by the NRL amid claims that he communicated with the Sharks while serving a one-year suspension in 2014.

Russell stated on Wednesday that Flanagan has not been suspended by the club as the NRL Integrity Unit continue to investigate Cronulla.

"Some time ago, over six months, I self-reported a salary-cap integrity incident. We've been working with the NRL for over six months now," he told reporters.

"It came to light a couple a couple of weeks ago there was an issue around 2014, as well as a salary-cap component, that issue was being investigated by the NRL and to date, it is pure speculation.

"We do not have any further details until we sit down with the NRL and an outcome is determined.

"That, we envisage after speaking with the NRL, will be before the end of the year. The 2014 - that has been raised will be dealt with, the salary-cap issue will be some time in the new year.

"What I can say is Shane Flanagan is our coach, he's contracted for 2019, he's done a wonderful job and he'll continue to coach the team. It will be training and business as usual for us. I've met with the players, I've met with the staff and I've relayed the same message."
