Huddersfield Giants eased their relegation fears with an 18-12 triumph away at fellow Super League strugglers Hull KR on Friday.

Both teams started the fixture sitting two points above bottom club London Broncos and while Rovers took the lead, it was the Giants who picked up a much-needed victory in the battle to avoid the drop.

The hosts broke the deadlock when Kane Linnett collected a kick to score but the Giants responded with a converted try from Matty English, making it 6-6 at the break.

Huddersfield went ahead early in the second half when Alex Mellor reached out to ground the ball over the line, though they failed to land the extras.

A pair of Darnell McIntosh penalties extended the visiting side's advantage to 14-6 yet Rovers were given renewed hope when Craig Hall crossed out wide for a try he also converted.

However, the Giants crucially grabbed the all-important next score, winger Jermaine McGillvary squeezing over in the corner to secure a much-needed triumph on the road.
