Liam Farrell bagged a hat-trick and Oliver Gildart scored a magnificent solo try in a 46-16 Super League drubbing for Wigan Warriors against sorry Wakefield Trinity.

Wigan's five-match winning streak was ended by fierce rivals St Helens last Friday, but they responded to that setback by putting Wakefield to the sword at the DW Stadium on Thursday.

Farrell crossed twice in the first half and completed his treble 10 minutes from time as Wigan moved up to fourth spot.

Forward Farrell darted through a gap to open the scoring and went over again following scores from Zak Hardaker and Willie Isa.

Jake Shorrocks got in on the act with a four-pointer and Jarrod Sammut went in under the posts in the 250th appearance of his career, with the reigning champions in total command when leading 34-0 at the break.

Ryan Hampshire crossed twice for Wakefield in the second half, his brace sandwiching Gildart running the length of the field for a magnificent try.

Farrell added another before Max Jowitt touched down at the other end for struggling Trinity, who remain four points clear of bottom club London Broncos.
