Kevin Walters did not hold back in his criticism of Queensland Maroons' State of Origin II performance, saying even his side's kick-off "p***** him off."

Queensland slumped to a humbling 38-6 defeat to New South Wales Blues in Sunday's clash at Perth's Optus Stadium, as the series was tied at 1-1.

Tom Trbojevic helped himself to a hat-trick in the rout, which means the series will now be decided in Sydney on July 10 following Queensland's 18-14 win in game one.

And Maroons coach Walters did not hide his frustration at his side's meek performance.

"We were comprehensively outplayed, they wanted it more than us and they got the rewards," Walters told a news conference.

"We were poor in a lot of areas, across the board we weren't in the game. Even our kick-off to start the game, was s***!

"It f****** p***** me off, it didn't go far enough. It's just how the game was, we were there, but we weren't good enough.

"Our preparation was good, but Origin is won on attitude and effort and we didn't match them in any area for the 80 minutes.

"They're not feeling too good in there at the moment but that's Origin. We'll all learn a lot, myself included.

"We've got to go to Sydney, a great Origin venue, and we'll look forward to the challenge. Everyone involved in the team is really disappointed with what we threw up."

Versatile Manly Sea Eagles' youngster Trbojevic was one of seven changes made by Blues coach Brad Fittler, and starred in the first Origin match to be played in Western Australia.

James Maloney also had a huge influence in stormy conditions in Perth and Fittler was full of praise for both players.

"Tommy was great, he's just a superstar," Fittler told a news conference. "He knows the game very well.

"He had a job to be a right-centre and he's one of those players that knows how to take advantage when you're on top. If Manly need a really good right-centre, there might be one there in Tom.

"James got us the win, he steered us around. I didn't have to talk at half-time because he was talking. He just finds a way to win. That's his best game in a while and it's important he goes back to Penrith [Panthers] and does it next week."
