Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman created history after he became the first Superbike 1000cc winner of the Asia Road Racing Championship.
The ONEXOX TKKR SAG Racing rider ended the 2019 season the way he started it — he won the first-ever 1000cc race held in Sepang in March — as he crossed the finish line in Buriram, Thailand, ahead of the racing pack on Sunday.
With the win, his sixth of the season, the 35-year-old amassed 238 points in total and overtook Australia's Broc Parkes, who had led the riders' championship since the second race of the first round, for the crown by 13 points.
Fellow Malaysian compatriot Zaqhwan Zaidi had an outside chance of winning the title, but the Honda Asia Dream Racing With SHOWA rider had to settle for third with 211 points.
It was Azlan's third Asian title after winning the Supersports 600cc title in 2013 and 2017.
The 1000cc category revved off for the first time this year.
