Conor McGregor has been called out by Donald Cerrone after the American defeated Al Iaquinta on points in a lightweight contest at UFC Fight Night in Ottawa on Saturday.

Earlier this year, McGregor appeared to reveal he had retired from mixed martial arts, before a series of since-deleted tweets looked to be challenging Khabib Nurmagomedov to another bout.

And Cerrone – nicknamed 'Cowboy' – is ready and willing to take on the Irishman, a two-weight world champion.

"Let's dance," Cerrone told TSN. "If he wants to come back in July, we're ready. July 4 weekend, I love international fight weekend.

"I think it would make perfect sense to get Conor and me on it."

Khabib is scheduled to meet Dustin Poirier in a lightweight unification scrap in September, and Cerrone believes he should be first in line if either competitor is forced to drop out.

"I just think if something happens and they need somebody else for a title shot, it better be me," he told UFC News.

"I've done so much in the sport, they would be foolish not to. I feel entitled."
