The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have renewed the contract of Malaysia national head coach Tan Cheng Hoe until the end of 2020.

The announcement was made by deputy president Yusoff Mahadi and secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam during a press conference held at the Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya on Tuesday.

According to Ramalingam, Tan was tasked with leading the Harimau Malaya to the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup final and qualifying for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

"I would like to thank the FAM committee for renewing my contract for two more years.

"The KPIs are a challenge for me and I myself have already set a personal target [of qualifying for the Asian Cup].

"I feel we need a high commitment from not only myself and the FAM, but also from players as well as all Malaysians if we want to see our team qualify for the Asian Cup," said the 50-year-old during the press conference.

Tan, whose contract had expired last month, initially linked up with the national team as assistant coach in April 2017 before being promoted to replace Nelo Vingada in December 2017.

He went on to end the Harimau Malaya's winless run of 16 months and guide the country to the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup final, where they lost 3-2 on aggregate to Vietnam.
