Faiz Nasir's wonder goal powers Malaysia to Afghanistan win
Malaysia ended their Airmarine Cup involvement on a high note as they defeated Afghanistan 2-1 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday.

The Harimau Malaya, who lost to Singapore on Thursday, had to work hard in the third place play-off as they found themselves 1-0 down around the half hour mark.

Thai-based midfielder Faysal Shayesteh brilliantly curled a long range effort beyond goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat for his side's first goal of the tournament — they lost 5-0 in an earlier encounter with Oman.

Selangor star Faiz Nasir, making his Malaysia debut, returned the favour with a similar strike just before the break to make the game all level again.

Despite Tan Cheng Hoe's side creating several good chances in the second half, they were unable to find the breakthrough and the game was seemingly heading to a penalty shootout.

However, the decisive moment finally materialised in the 84th minute through Afghanistan defender Abassin Alikhil, who unfortunately poked Matthew Davies' low cross into his own net.

The own goal was enough to seal the result and marked Malaysia's first win in six international matches.
