The Spurs' worst fear is apparently becoming a reality.
Veteran point guard Tony Parker will likely need season-ending surgery after injuring his left leg in Wednesday's Western Conference semifinal game against the Rockets, according to The Vertical. The team believes he has at least a partial, and possibly a full, tear of his quadriceps tendon, USA Today reported, and surgery would be required either way.
Parker had to be carried off the court after he went down early in the fourth quarter of San Antonio's win. He attempted a running jumper in the lane, but his left let buckled as he landed on the court at AT&T Center. The 34-year-old remained on the floor as action transitioned to the other end of the court following his miss.
Parker tried to massage the pain out himself as he tried to walk off the floor, but could not put any pressure on his left leg and was carried off the court by teammates.
The results of Parker's MRI on Thursday are not yet known.
"It's not good," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said after the game.
Parker is averaging 15.9 points and 3.1 assists this postseason.
