The Mavericks apparently have Kristaps Porzingis' back.

Less than two weeks after Porzingis was involved in a bar fight in his native Latvia, the 23-year-old big man met with the Mavericks and the team determined he wasn't at fault in the incident, The Dallas Morning News reported, citing an unidentified league source.

According to the report, the Mavericks spoke "at length" with Porzingis and concluded that he was "in the wrong place at the wrong time" and that Porzingis didn't break his hand in the fight, despite earlier reports that he did.

A video emerged May 12 of a bloodied Porzingis after the alleged incident in which he is seen storming off, which prompted the Mavericks to look into the matter. Porzingis was not charged in the alleged fight.

Speculation was reinforced that Porzingis was jumped by a group of Russians, reportedly part of a gang, that was upset Porzingis switched teams in the middle of the season — Porzingis was traded by the Knicks to the Mavericks before February's trade deadline.

Knicks president Steve Mills recently indicated that Porzingis wanted the trade and threatened to go play in Europe if he wasn't moved out of New York

Porzingis didn't play this season for either the Knicks or the Mavericks as he continued to rehab from a torn ACL sustained in February 2018.
