One week after he wrote a piece for The Players' Tribune detailing his struggles with alcoholism, former NBA point guard Steve Francis was arrested on a public intoxication charge.

Francis, 41, was arrested at a Los Angeles hotel Sunday night after police were called for a disturbance between two men, TMZ Sports reported.

When police arrived, Francis was deemed drunk and arrested. He was released from jail around 7 a.m. PT and given a citation.

Last week, Francis admitted in The Players' Tribune that he battled alcohol problems during and after his career in the NBA.

"I was drinking heavily, is what happened. And that can be just as bad. In the span of a few years I lost basketball, I lost my whole identity, and I lost my stepfather, who committed suicide," he wrote.

He also detailed how he survived as a teenager on the streets of Washington D.C. after his mother died of cancer. Francis sold crack cocaine for several years, but was very adamant he never did drugs.

"Listen, I sold crack when I was growing up. I’ll own up to that. But never in my life did I ever do crack," he wrote. "...It was messed up. I’m not glorifying it. I got robbed at gunpoint a million times. I got my a— beat a million times. I saw drive-bys. But honestly, if you ask me what really scared me the most, it wasn’t the guns. Shootings were almost … natural. I mean, what do you think is gonna happen when you’re in the streets? The scariest thing was the drugs."

In November 2016, Francis was arrested in Houston and charged with DWI and threatening police officers. He pleaded guilty, was given a $1,000 fine and had his license suspended for a year.
