Dwight Howard's anticipated debut in Washington could come as early as this week.

According to The Athletic, the star forward is hoping to make his return to the court Friday when the Wizards host the Thunder.

Howard, in his first season with the Wizards after changing teams twice this offseason, has been dealing with back soreness but recently began working with trainers and assistant coaches to prepare for his comeback.

Meanwhile, Washington has stumbled to a 1-6 start, including four straight losses, in Howard's absence. The team ranks last in the NBA in opponent points per game, 27th in defensive rating, 28th in opponent rebounds and 29th in opponent offensive rebounds.

The Wizards are slated to host the Thunder at 8 p.m. ET Friday.
