Malaysia off to winning start at Thomas Cup
Malaysia had no trouble disposing of Russia 5-0 in their 2018 Thomas Cup opening match in Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday.

Lee Chong Wei, who was surprisingly included for the game, barely broke a sweat as he saw off Vladimir Malkov 21-9, 21-6 in the first game.

"I want to get used to the court because I know many have complained about the wind," said the Malaysia No.1 singles shuttler.

Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong, who both turned 29 on Sunday and Monday respectively, then beat Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov 21-18, 21-19, extending their winning record over the Russian pair to 4-1 at the same time.

Lee Zii Jia sealed the team's victory by beating Sergey Sirant 21-13, 21-16.

In the remaining match-ups, Teo Ee Yi and Aaron Chia overcame Evgenji Dremin and Denis Grachev 21-16, 21-9, and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin completed the rout with a 21-9, 21-12 win over Rodion Alimov in the final round.

Malaysia will next face Algeria on Tuesday before taking on Thomas Cup holders Denmark the following day.
