Nicolas Jarry's impressive run at the Generali Open ended with a semi-final loss to qualifier Denis Istomin on Friday.

After overcoming third seed Fernando Verdasco and Swiss Open Gstaad champion Matteo Berrettini en route to the last four, Jarry was downed 7-5 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 in a battle with Istomin.

The Uzbek had a chance to wrap things up inside two sets after registering the first mini-break in the tie-break, but his opponent instantly hit back to take the match the distance.

Jarry, a semi-finalist in Hamburg last week, was broken in game three of the decider and that spelled the end for him, though his efforts in Kitzbuhel will be sufficient to get him into the top 50 for the first time in his career.

Istomin now has the chance to claim his third ATP World Tour title when he takes on fellow qualifier Martin Klizan in the final.

Klizan, who eliminated top seed Dominic Thiem in the second round, defeated Jaume Munar 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.
