Gasquet shows his class on grass to end Chardy's chances

Richard Gasquet came out on top in an all-French final against Jeremy Chardy to win the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships.

The experienced Gasquet triumphed 6-3 7-6 (7-5) after one hour and 31 minutes on court to secure his 15th career title on the ATP Tour but his first since 2016.

He seized control in the eighth game of a see-saw opening set, flashing two forehand winners to register a crucial second break of serve that he quickly consolidated to move ahead.

Chardy followed his compatriot's lead in the second by going 5-3 up, raising the possibility of a decider, only to waste two set-point opportunities as his opponent fought back.

Both players struggled with their serve in a tense tie-break before Gasquet eventually prevailed, the 31-year-old wrapping up a win that will move him up to 25 when the world rankings are updated.
