Wigan Warriors denied St Helens the chance to lift the Super League leaders' shield with a crushing 30-10 victory over their fierce rivals on Friday.

Saints only needed a draw to get their hands on some silverware at the Totally Wicked Stadium but they had no answer to a sensational display from the Warriors, who remain unbeaten in the Super 8's.

Wigan have not tasted defeat in four matches and Shaun Wane's side look a force to be reckoned with as the 2018 season nears its finale.

Dan Sarginson led the way with a first-half double as Wigan raced into a 14-0 lead, their quick hands and support play leaving the hosts dumbfounded.

A spectacular try from Oliver Gildart helped wrap up the comprehensive win and leave Saints waiting another week to get their hands on the trophy.

Wigan are the in-form team in the Super 8's following that victory and Huddersfield Giants' loss to Wakefield Trinity, who ended their hosts' six-game winning run in resounding fashion.

Huddersfield looked on course to add to their impressive streak when they led 16-6 shortly after the break, but Wakefield scored 36 unanswered points thereafter to turn things around and put a dent in the Giants' top-four hopes.

Scott Grix and Tom Johnstone both touched down twice as Wakefield ran in seven scores to complete a 42-16 triumph.
