Michael Maguire is optimistic a knee injury suffered by Robbie Farah in the defeat to Canterbury Bulldogs on Saturday will not end the hooker's career.

The former Australia international will retire at the end of the season, but there are concerns over whether he will have to call time early on his career after twisting awkwardly when tackled by Lachlan Lewis in the first half at ANZ Stadium.

Farah will undergo a scan after limping out of Wests Tigers' damaging 18-16 NRL defeat, which captain Moses Mbye played just nine minutes of before suffering a quad injury.

Wests coach Maguire is hopeful 35-year-old Farah still has a part to play in the rest of the season.

"We'll wait for a scan, not 100 per cent sure." Maguire said when asked about the extent of the damage done.

"[The medical staff] seem to think it might just be a medial on the inside of the knee there. Fingers crossed we get a bit of decent news on that.

"I'm sure Robbie will be back. He won't let that finish him. He will get his scans. He was pretty positive in there. He stayed out there but it just got to the point where he couldn't keep running."

Paul Momirovski's missed conversion attempt right at the end prevented the Tigers from taking the contest to golden point, striking a blow to their chances of securing a finals spot.
