Jake Trueman scored a hat-trick as Castleford Tigers thrashed Hull FC 44-12 to move above their opponents and into the Super League play-off places.

The Tigers surged clear in the first 20 minutes at the Jungle and never looked back, with Hull failing to get the win they needed to guarantee a top-five finish.

Castleford travel to Wigan Warriors for their final game of the regular season next Friday, while Hull entertain League Leaders' Shield winners St Helens.

Trueman, who was this week called up to the Great Britain training squad, sent Cheyse Blair over for the opening try and added two of his own before a Jamie Ellis penalty made it 20-0.

Masi Matongo got Hull on the board and 20-year-old stand-off Trueman held up Tevita Satae to stop the visitors making further in-roads before the interval.

Castleford punished an error from Hull two minutes after the restart and Blair teed up Trueman for his hat-trick.

Jack Logan scored a length-of-the-field try despite Jamie Shaul being in the sin bin for holding down Jordan Rankin, but the Tigers put the game beyond doubt with three tries in the final 10 minutes.

Rankin chased down Trueman's kick to score after James Clare went over in the corner, with Matt Cook - making his 250th Super League appearance - rounding off the scoring after Jake Connor was shown a yellow card for dissent.
