Castleford Tigers bounced back from their defeat to Warrington Wolves with a 24-20 victory over Salford Red Devils in the Super League.

The Tigers suffered a 24-10 reverse to the Wolves last time out - their first loss of the season - but overcame a stern test in Sunday's home match against a side who started the day level with them on eight points.

Daryl Powell's men led early on through Nathan Massey's try, with Jordan Rankin also getting in on the act before Jake Bibby reduced the arrears.

When Greg Eden touched down at the end of a fine second-half move and Rankin converted, Cas looked to be in control of matters at 18-4 up.

But Salford, who introduced Adam Walker off the bench for his first appearance since a 20-month drug ban, rallied as Jansin Turgut's try was quickly followed up by Joey Lussick crashing over.

Jesse Sene-Lefao found a gap to cross the whitewash and momentarily stem the tide, but Greg Minikin's error let Bibby in to cut the gap to four and set up a tense finish, in which the Tigers held on.

The day's other game pitted brothers Sam and Joel Tomkins against one another, with the former prevailing as Catalans Dragons grabbed a last-gasp 18-16 win at Hull KR.

The scores had been tied at just two apiece at the interval, but a more entertaining second half saw Joel Tomkins among the Hull try scorers.

It was the younger Tomkins sibling who had the final say, though as Sam converted Lewis Tierney's late score to win it for the away side.
