Canberra Raiders put an end to Penrith Panthers' winning streak in the NRL on Sunday, while Sydney Roosters continued their recent dominance over Canterbury Bulldogs.

Penrith had won seven on the spin going into the game but found the Raiders too hot to handle at Panthers Stadium, though their cause was not helped by Dean Whare spending 10 minutes in the sin bin.

Canberra capitalised quickly on the numerical advantage with Elliott Whitehead crashing over, helping open up a 12-6 half-time lead.

The contest remained close in the second half and it was not until John Bateman finished off a breakaway try in the 74th minute that the Raiders were certain of victory on their travels.

They sit level on 26 points with the Roosters, who recorded a sixth straight win over the Bulldogs. James Tedesco, Joseph Manu and Brett Morris all scored tries in what was a comfortable victory despite the final 20-12 scoreline.

Latrell Mitchell landed all three of his conversion attempts as well as a first-half penalty as Sydney triumphed at ANZ Stadium, despite Reimis Smith crossing twice after the interval for the Bulldogs.

However, victory may have come at a cost for the reigning champions. Both Siosiua Taukeiaho and Boyd Cordner were forced off with calf injuries, while Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was placed on report for a high shot in the closing stages.
