St Helens extended their lead at the top of Super League with a convincing 36-10 win over struggling rivals Wigan Warriors on Good Friday.

Regan Grace scored a hat-trick of tries as table-topping Saints moved four points clear of nearest rivals Warrington Wolves, who surprisingly lost 36-12 at home to Salford Red Devils.

Wigan were in the contest when only trailing 18-10 at the halfway stage, George Williams' try just before the break giving them hope following a lengthy delay in proceedings due to a serious leg injury suffered by Warriors winger Tom Davies.

However, Saints responded by scoring 18 points without reply in the second half. Winger Grace completed his personal treble and Lachlan Coote also touched down, adding to his six goals as he finished with a personal haul of 16 points.

To make matters worse for Wigan, Jake Shorrocks was taken from the field on a stretcher in the closing minutes following a challenge that led to a yellow card for St Helens' Dominique Peyroux.

There was a similar story in another derby fixture in the competition, Hull FC running in 38 unanswered second-half points to thrash neighbours Hull Kingston Rovers.

Mark Minichiello's try straight after the interval began an onslaught from the hosts, Jack Logan getting a hat-trick while Joe Westerman, Albert Kelly and Mickey Paea also touched down.

Connor Wynne grabbed the final try after excellent work by former Rovers player Kelly, Marc Sneyd - who this week signed a new three-year deal - knocking over his 10th conversion to complete a resounding 56-12 triumph.

Krisnan Inu was in impressive form with the boot for Salford too, converting all four of his team's tries and kicking four penalties to help Salford cause an upset at Warrington, the result lifting the Red Devils up to seventh.

Leeds Rhinos moved off the bottom with a 38-18 win over Huddersfield Giants, a third success of the season lifting them above London Broncos - who lost heavily on Thursday to Catalans Dragons - in the table.
