The Cronulla Sharks named John Morris as interim head coach as Shane Flanagan faces de-registration from the NRL.

Flanagan is set to have his registration cancelled after an NRL investigation found he had dealings with the Sharks while suspended in 2014.

He has until the end of January to respond to the findings, which were released last month.

But the Sharks have appointed Morris as interim head coach, with Jim Dymock to remain as assistant.

Morris played 300 NRL games and has coached the Sharks at lower levels since joining the academy in 2015.

"The club is delighted to be able to give John the opportunity to step up into the interim head coach role and has full confidence in his ability to lead our football program into the 2019 season," Sharks chief executive Barry Russell said.
