St Helens stole a dramatic 26-22 win at Catalans Dragons to all but seal the Super League Leaders' Shield.

The Saints have endured a tough few weeks in the Super 8s, losing two of their prior three matches, but a spirited showing in France concluded as Morgan Knowles battled through for a crucial try with a minute left to move the visitors six points clear of Wigan Warriors with just three games remaining.

A frantic first half saw the officials regularly called into action after Catalans had appeared in complete control with tries from David Mead and Remi Casty.

Mark Percival mustered a response - awarded after a review - but obstruction at either end saw efforts from Kenny Edwards and Regan Grace ruled out.

With the pace scarcely slowing, Theo Fages ducked under the posts before the Dragons' Sam Moa went to the sin bin for a late hit and Danny Richardson kicked St Helens in front.

Catalans, who beat Saints last month en route to Challenge Cup glory, were back on the front foot at the start of the second half and scored twice more through Iain Thornley and Edwards, but Jonny Lomax's converted try in the closing stages set up a tense finish.

The Dragons looked to have done enough to see out victory, but Knowles - on the final tackle of a huge Saints set - burst through and decisively lunged over the line.
