Sydney Roosters will be without Latrell Mitchell for their preliminary final after the centre was suspended for committing a crusher tackle.

Mitchell was inspirational in the Roosters' second-half fightback against Cronulla Sharks on Saturday, crossing for a try as his side recorded a 21-12 victory.

The result in the qualifying final secured Trent Robinson's side an extra week off, as they will not play again in the NRL play-offs until September 22.

However, Mitchell - who has scored 236 points in this year's competition - will sit out the clash with either South Sydney Rabbitohs or St George Illawarra Dragons due to a one-game ban.

The 21-year-old was hit with a grade one dangerous contact charge following a challenge on Cronulla's Josh Dugan, though the club entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

However, after a 100-minute hearing on Tuesday, a judiciary panel of former players Sean Garlick, Tony Puletua, Bob Lindner rejected the appeal, meaning Mitchell will miss the Roosters' next match.
