State of Origin rookie Kalyn Ponga hobbled out of Newcastle Knights' loss to Canterbury Bulldogs with a hamstring injury on Saturday.

Ponga's fine form for Newcastle earned him a Queensland debut in Origin II, but his place in the third game could be in doubt amid fears of a hamstring tear.

Team-mate Slade Griffin was taken to hospital with a worrying knee injury, as the Knights fell to a 36-16 defeat.

After Ponga bowed out early on, Kerrod Holland crossed twice for the Bulldogs, who found themselves behind at the break to a Connor Watson double and Herman Ese'ese's effort.

It was all one-way traffic after the restart, though, with Reimis Smith and Jeremy Marshall-King quickly turning the match on its head, before Fa'amanu Brown and Josh Jackson consolidated victory late on.

Manly Sea Eagles' bad luck with injuries also continued as Dylan Walker endured more bad luck, but their latest blow was softened by a fine 18-10 win at Penrith Panthers.

Walker, who is only just back from a broken jaw, was substituted with a knee injury early in the second half as his side led through tries from Joel Thompson and Matthew Wright.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak had earlier cancelled out Thompson's opener, but there was to be no Panthers fightback as Trent Hodkinson sealed the win.

Elsewhere, a superb second-half comeback saw Brisbane Broncos past Canberra Raiders 26-22.

The Raiders led 16-0 at the break after tries from Elliott Whitehead and Nick Cotric, but Corey Oates and Alex Glenn scores brought Brisbane back into contention after the restart.

Josh Hodgson crossed to nudge Canberra further clear again, but Jordan Kahu and Anthony Millford secured the lead for the first time, before Jamayne Isaako's late penalty made sure of the points.
