Brett Morris believes he has shown his Sydney Roosters team-mates what he can do after scoring a debut hat-trick in the World Club Challenge victory over Wigan Warriors.

The winger crossed the line three times in the first half at the DW Stadium as the Roosters claimed a 20-8 triumph to equal Wigan's record of four wins in the match that pits the Super League champions against the NRL victors.

It marked a memorable return to a venue where Morris scored a brace for St George Illawarra Dragons against Wigan in the 2011 instalment, and he has now won the Man of the Match award twice in the Club Challenge.

But more importantly for Morris, 32, he feels the performance will go a long way to earning the trust of his team-mates following his move from the Canterbury Bulldogs.

"I was given job to go out there and try and do my best, I certainly did my best," Morris told Sky Sports.

"I wanted to impress the guys, it's been a long pre-season. I've been trying to earn their trust and I think I showed them what I can do.

"It's a huge honour [to win Man of the Match twice], I came here in 2011. There's something about this field. Wigan is a great club with a great fanbase. It's footie you want to play."

Morris crossed twice inside 10 minutes to give the Roosters a flying start and Warriors captain Sean O'Loughlin acknowledged his side left themselves too big a mountain to climb.

"We knew it'd be tough, we cost ourselves at the start," he said.

"We were chasing the game at the start really. Against sides like this who are used to playing close games we put our backs against the wall.

"Tries don't come easy against quality sides. We had to work hard, we didn't quite get there, but it's a great experience and for the boys who haven't played international rugby this is as close as you'll get."
