Huddersfield Giants could be without winger Jermaine McGillvary for the first two months of the Super League season due to a hamstring injury.

The 30-year-old limped out of a 28-24 a defeat to Wakefield Trinity in the Giants' final pre-season match on Tuesday.

Giants head coach Simon Woolford revealed that McGillvary will join Leroy Cudjoe on the sidelines for the start of the 2019 campaign.

Woolford said: "He's going to be out for an extended period. It's not a minor hammy injury, it's going to be quite a big one.

"With Leroy out already, we couldn't afford to lose Jermaine. Someone is going to have to step up for round one and probably the first half-a-dozen rounds, to be honest."
