Luckless Wigan Warriors wing Dom Manfredi has been ruled out for the rest of the season with another serious knee injury.

Manfredi spent almost two years on the sidelines before returning to score a brace of tries in Wigan's Super League Grand final victory over Warrington Wolves last October.

The 25-year-old now faces another lengthy absence after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the defeat at Castleford Tigers last Friday.

Wigan executive director Kris Radlinski said: "Dom visited a specialist yesterday who confirmed our worst fears and the injury that he sustained at Castleford Tigers would end his season.

"This is a devastating blow for Dom and the team.

"Dom only returned from surgery on his other knee towards the end of last year and had the fairy-tale ending at Old Trafford. Now he faces the same journey of rehabilitation. Our focus is on helping him through this difficult time."

Warriors head of performance Mark Bitcon said Manfredi's return from such a long spell out of the game to star in the decider against Warrington last year was "akin to climbing Everest".

Manfredi was named in the 2016 Super League Dream Team before his first injury blow.
