Cooper Cronk's hopes of facing Melbourne Storm in Sunday's NRL Grand Final are still alive after he was named in Sydney Roosters' 19-man squad.

The inspirational half-back suffered a serious shoulder injury the Roosters' 12-4 Preliminary Final victory over derby rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs last weekend.

Cronk said he was a "long shot" to face his former club in the decider at ANZ Stadium when he spoke to the media on Monday wearing a sling.

The Australia playmaker stated three days before the final in Sydney that he is "still trying to throw a Hail Mary" and play some part against the defending champions.

Cronk went through a private training session on the eve of the match following an intense week of rehabilitation and the 34-year-old was later included in a squad which was reduced from 21, listed as a reserve along with Lindsay Collins.

The team will be named an hour before kick-off.
