Jamie Ellis' drop goal snatched a last-gasp 19-18 victory for Castleford Tigers over Wigan Warriors on Friday.

Castleford moved to within a point of their second-placed opponents with a home win, though they looked set to be denied by the understrength visitors - missing a trio of England internationals - until the final seconds.

Quentin Laulu-Togaga'e crossed to cancel out Sam Tomkins' opening try, but the Tigers trailed 12-4 by the break after Liam Marshall's superb breakaway effort preceded a Tomkins penalty.

But it was one-way traffic after the restart, Michael Shenton touching down before Ellis' penalty goal levelled the match.

Matt Cook's try put Castleford in front for the first time, but his spell in the sin bin for the final 10 minutes allowed Tomkins to set up Tom Davies.

From that point, the two sides were restricted to one-point attempts and, following two misses, Ellis delivered the match-winning moment in the closing stages.
