Daly Cherry-Evans has been named for Queensland's State of Origin opener against New South Wales less than a month after undergoing ankle surgery.

Cherry-Evans, 30, had surgery on April 30 and the Manly Sea Eagles star was expected to miss six weeks.

However, he now looks set to line up for the Maroons in the opener in Brisbane on June 5.

The playmaker was named in an 18-man squad on Monday, with head coach Kevin Walters also including three debutants.

David Fifita, Moses Mbye and Joe Ofahengaue were also included for the series opener.

Full-back Mbye suffered a groin injury on Friday and missed Wests Tigers' 32-16 loss to South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Such were the Maroons' injury woes, Melbourne Storm star Cameron Smith was linked with an Origin return, but the hooker was unsurprisingly not named.

While Queensland have dominated Origin for more than a decade, the Blues are coming off a 2-1 series win.
